I liked all these stories, the first one has a Twilight Zone feel to it, which is never a bad thing.

I have to say that I appreciate these old Charlton books a lot better now than I did as a kid. I was more into the Marvels, DC's, Warren's and B&W Horror mags back then but the Charlton books seem more enjoyable to me now. I think it's possible they must have had a lower distribution in my town because I rarely saw them at the newsstands.
DeleteI didn't see Charlton Comics in my neighborhood until the mid eighties when the company was on its last legs, there were no dedicated comic shops near where i lived growing up, I would find Charlton (as best as I can remember) either for sale in a discount department store called Clover or in a Farmer;s market called Zerns. Their distribution was spotty at best, but for me well worth finding them wherever I could.
DeleteIt seems like in my old neighborhood I could only find Charlton's occasionally at an old convenient store called U-Tot-Em. Maybe some 7-11's too. But I picked up lots of them at the 25 cent bins at comic shops years later!
ReplyDeleteAnd actually I some old Charlton's a few years ago at a comic convention for a buck each. I got about 20 of them. Unfortunately I went to a comic shop a week ago and while looking through the boxes I saw a bunch of 70's Charlton romance books all priced at 15 bucks each. Needless to say I didn't but any!
