  1. I love the spot illo, which appears to be by Joe Staton.

  2. Yes it's a nice illo. But I enjoyed the Sutton story the best. I wish I had bought more of these Charlton books at the time they were published. I guess they had low distribution but I know I got most of my Charlton's at U-TOT-EM convenient stores. Now there's a blast from the past!

  3. All of these stories were great!
Ditko did fine work in the first tale, with Komodo Dragons in the temple basement. A reasonable almost believable explanation, something not often seen on horror comics. The horned demons from 'Temple of Fire' reminded me of the made for TV movie 'Gargoyles', the two page printed tale was a twist with the hunted being the hunters, and a second twist at its end, and The Whispering Box was a psychological horror tale rather than an out right evil spirit in the box tale.

A Charlton Gem of a comic.

There were no U-TOT-EM stores near where I lived, I managed to pick up the Charlton Comics from a discounted book store located in a farmers market called Zerns in Montgomery county, PA. Later on I found Charlton Comics available from a department store called Clover, but this was in 1984 or so when Charlton was nearing the end of its publishing days.

Charlton comics, always a good read no matter what!

  4. Gargoyles was a great movies. Bernie Casey ,who played the main gargoyle, just passed away.

U-TOT-EM was cool because they carried some of the magazines the local 7-11 did not. I used to get the Warren magazines at the U-TOT-EM stores nearby. Actually there were at least 6 or 7 places nearby my house where you could get comics. A far cry from today where only the comic shops carry the books.

  5. Yeah, U-Tot-Em, with it's giant politically incorrect Native American totem, was a great source of comics beyond DC and Marvel. I picked up many a THUNDER Agents, Charlton, and Gold Key comic book there. I once found three issues of Flash Gordon, with art by Williamson and Crandall, still on the rack at the same time.

  6. The entire 60's and 70's were politically
incorrect but the comic books were so good!
