For Evans this must have been quite a comedown from the EC days. The comics code, coupled with the competition from television, eviscerates the industry and he finds himself scrambling for work. Charlton paid some of the lowest rates in the industry and he was probably glad to get it.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet the work is still superb. Look at that downward staircase panel on the second to last page. There would have been so many easier ways to show that scene but Evans designed a beautiful and effective sequence.
