Cartoonists Make Better Lovers John Forte

John Forte was a journeyman comics artist who started in 1941 over at Timely. John did a significant amount of work at Quality and ACG, but found his most consistent home over at DC. Silver Age enthusiasts will remember him as the original series artist on the Legion Of Super Heroes strip, as well as for his turns on Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and the Bizzaro series.

But before those costumed hero jobs, Forte was kind of a Romance specialist. Here is a 1950 strip John drew from the Quality book HOLLYWOOD DIARY called “Bewitched by Success”. With no disrespect to the man, I have to say that this earlier stuff appeals to me more than the 60’s material.

Forte might have garnered a larger reputation with his superhero work had he continued producing, Sadly, at age 47 Forte lost his battle with colon cancer and passed away in 1965.
