All three stories were great and Ditko was at the top of his game on this one.
I wouldn't mind owning a lucky statuette like Sloppy Sam, but I would give it a much more appropriate name such as Success Sam, Serendipity Sam or Serenity Sam. Now all I have to do is find a statuette like the one in the tale.
I also liked how Mr. Dedd was a bellhop/elevator operator on page four of the Sloppy Sam tale, a touch of humor here and there often found in Charlton tales.
All these stories were nice, but I was most struck by the echoes of THE SHINING--the book, not the movie--in the first one: that boy that can see the dead and gets rescued by his older self. Minus the malignant hotel & alcoholic dad, of course.

ReplyDeleteDitko was at his prime in 1969 and was creating many characters and stories. I forgot to take the ads out but they are fun so I just leave them.
