Dr. Drew was a bit of a sorcerer Sherlock solving mysteries that had an element of magic about them. The concept of a sorcerer Sherlock Holmes can be found in Lord Darcy books.
Jerry Grandenetti's doing one heck of an imitation of Will Eisner there...
His ability to mimic Will Eisner was amazing. I first saw his work in Creepy Magazine. When I then saw his earlier work, including the great war comics he did for DC, I could hardly believe they were by the same artist.
Grandenetti's Warren art was very different from these Dr. Drew stories. I like both. I will have to heck out those Lord Darcy books.
I believe Grandenetti was an assistant on the Spirit and Eisner instructed Grandenetti to draw these Dr Drew tales in the "Eisner" style.
